The New Year approaches

Another day, another blog . . . so what is it that I'm doing here? Well, as many of my friends already know, I started running about 3 months ago. It's been quite the trip. My best friend has been my running coach and I've gotten inspiration from other people who have also started running. Why did I do such a crazy thing?

I've always been on of those people who saw runners on the side of the road and said "Boy, that guy/gal does not look happy." After having been there myself, I now understand why. It's a lot of work, but I'm betting they're smiling by the end. Each run is an accomplishment, a goal that can be met and achieved.

So back to the first question . . .what the heck am I doing here? I'm going to record my progress towards running a half marathon in June or 2010. The first week of training is the first week of the year and I'll be putting my progress here. My progress along with any successes or failures, hurdles or smooth spots, happies and sads. Yes, I know I should pluralize those two words.

Hopefully, this will be a good resource for me as well as for anyone else that wants to take up running for fun or for your health. If you read this, wish me luck! Oh and just to clarify, this isn't a New Year's resolution. I've been running for several months already and I'm already registered for the half marathon. I don't personally care for resolutions. If you're going to improve yourself, why wait until the new year to get started?

I'll be measuring my progress in minutes per run at first and then in miles per week. Oh, and I'll throw in my weight to boot. So, here's the starting point:

22 weeks to go. Currently at 20 minutes of running per day. 298 pounds.
